Now, I will discuss the GM EV1, leased from 1997 to around 2006. These cars were lease only, and were subsiquently crushed upon return. This has lead to much controversy surrounding the topic. You can read more here.

GM EV1

General Motors EV-1

Above is a picture of an early General Motors EV1 Car (Circa 1998.) This was the first major production EV with around 1,100 cars leased between 1997 and 2005. These cars were leased, and later crushed. See this page.
